Private Groups
I would like the ability to create private groups that nobody sees unless I specifically send them an invite. It isn't listed in the front end for anybody else to see.

@Marcos, I'm happy to help with suggestions. Firstly it is important for the private group activity (announcements, discussions, walls, events etc) to filter to the group members activity stream and other 'latest discussion' and 'event' modules. Currently Jomsocial does not filter private group activity.
Also it would be great if members could 'subscribe' to specific discussions, events, announcements so that they are not flooded with notifications from all group activity - this is especially useful for intranet type of deployments.
Just as members can subscribe they must be able to easily unsubscribe.
Hope this helps.

I would love to see this. I personally would like to create a private group for folks that work for me and require employees to go to the group to stay up on things that I need them to know about.

Hi,
I'm currently developing this. Anyone interested in contributing, PM me or email me.
Thanks!

The lack of this feature keeps one of my clients always asking about other social systems. It comes up every month when we review priorities for the next month. I'd really prefer not to have to try and integrate supergroups with JomSocial.

I would think it could be a simple setting when a group is created. You can already make a group private, this is just another layer of privacy.
"Would you like this group to appear in the groups directory? If not, only users that receive a direct link or invite will be able to find this group." -

It is hard to compete with Facebook. But everyone is aware of the fact that Facebook philosophy is not 100% on privacy, security etc. So secret groups and more control for admin is a huge opportunity for JomSocial for intranets, internal groups and similar.

I'm all for this idea. I had hoped to see it available before now. Seems like a simple idea and something that is easy to do on Facebook. Facebook calls it a "Secret" group.
